When we pay attention to the news today, with the constant reporting of COVID-19, now is especially important to remember that mindfulness matters. It is very easy to what if the situation to a point where we are extremely stressed, making decisions based on what may happen in our future.
If were mindful in this moment, we realize that social distancing, self monitoring and self isolation don't have to create panic. Instead allow these actions to relax ourselves, knowing we are taking the actions available to us in this moment. Action to help prevent spreading the virus, action to make sure we don't overwhelm the medical system.
We can use these moment to take a deep breath, pay attention to that breath, although we breathe every single day many of us are far to busy to take the time to actually pay attention to that breath. in fact many of you reading this are probably only aware of 2 parts of your breath, the breath in and the breath out. I challenge you to take this time to focus on the breath and find the 4 parts. (1) Breath In (2) Pause (3) Breath out (4) Pause. Take the time to really notice what happens to the body during those 4 parts, you might be surprised. And of course remember, that as long as I am breathing I must be OK.
No one can predict tomorrow, or change yesterday, Attempting either will cause you a great deal of stress. Accept what is today or was yesterday, even if you don't like it, accept it. Realize the actions and choice you take today affect tomorrow, and remember to take the best actions today, to have the best tomorrow.
Lastly in this moment take time to be grateful to the first responders, the government organizations, and everyone else working to manage the Pandemic in the best way they know how.
